Shortbread

This is the dessert that is always delicious, uses only three ingredients you likely have on hand and is super simple to make. It is my go-to recipe when I have unexpected company on the way.
Ingredients
  • ½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut in pieces
  • Caramel Sauce (see recipe)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, stir together the sugar and flour. Cut the butter into the mixture with a pastry cutter. Don’t overwork the dough. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and mash evenly throughout the pan. It will be a little coarse looking. Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Cool in the pan. Cut into small pieces when ready to serve and drizzle with Caramel Sauce.
