Making waves for the community
In 1973, several citizens in Fairview got together to evaluate and react to the needs of people in their community with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They were determined to “make waves” on behalf of those they wanted to serve with the most needed programs and services. Almost immediately, Waves Inc. opened for business.
The core values of Waves Inc. are respect, integrity and compassion. The nonprofit employs each of these virtues in its mission of empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to progress toward their full potential. This is done with the goal of helping create an inclusive community where everyone works, learns and plays together.
Waves Inc. has been designated by the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities as a “Person-Centered Organization.”
Today, Waves Inc. has nearly 100 full-time and part-time employees. A broad range of services is provided to more than 700 children and adults each year. These include early learning, adult day services, adult residential, employment and office recycling programs.
