At MTE, we work hard to serve our communities, members and their families. One way we do this is through the Washington Youth Tour Creative Writing Contest, an MTE-sponsored contest with an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the winners.
High school students in the service area are given educational materials on subjects related to electric cooperatives. They use this information to write essays about how their local electric cooperative connects communities with energy, information and opportunities.
This year, seven winners will join students from across the nation for the 2022 Washington Youth Tour June 17-23. They will meet House members and U.S. senators during the trip, explore the museums, memorials and monuments in our nation’s capital and network with teens representing other electric cooperatives. Eleven winners were awarded $1,000 scholarships, and five received $100, along with the recognition of representing their schools.
