Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) continues to make strides in offering renewable energy sources to our members with ongoing commitments and future plans, including some new options starting June 1. At MTE, we’re working to be responsible stewards of the environment for future generations while providing reliable energy today. That’s also why we’ve partnered with TVA to bring programs that allow our members to use electricity generated by cleaner, renewable resources such as solar, hydro, wind and methane gas.
MTE has proven its commitment to renewable energy through the construction of a 1 MWh solar farm consisting of more than 3,000 solar panels in College Grove. We also installed a 1 MWh commercial Tesla Powerpack battery system in Rockvale. Most recently, our Lebanon Office was outfitted with a 60 kW solar array paired with Schneider Electric batteries and a large generator to create a microgrid.
Beginning June 1, MTE will partner with TVA to offer a new “Green Suite” of programs. We will continue our MTE Cooperative Solar Program; additionally, we will offer the Green Switch and Green Flex (commercial) programs.
These programs will give our members more options and flexibility when it comes to renewable energy.
Through our Green Switch program, residential members can purchase renewable energy generated in the Tennessee Valley without the hassle of contracts or installation. For an additional investment of $2 per month on your power bill, members are assured that 200 kWh of their electricity consumption is renewable. That cost is equal to the environmental benefits of planting a half-acre of trees in the Tennessee Valley.
MTE will continue to develop new methods of delivering clean power to our members. No matter the technology or the scale, every bit helps. Doing this will continue to drive carbon dioxide emissions down and lead to more sustainable energy sources while reducing pollution, improving air quality and saving natural resources.
