Life is Better in the Garden- Annual Spring Fling by Memphis Area Master Gardeners

The noted speakers will not only educate you but will entertain you while doing so. Celeste Scott, UT Horticulture Extension Specialist, will entertain you with irresistible flowering shrubs; Mary Glenys Espey, UT Extension Agent-Madison County, Gardening to benefit local wildlife; Andrea Ludwig, PhD, EIT, Professor, Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science, will share Growing Greener Communities through Tennessee Smart Yards; Adam Queen, Greenhouse and Cutting Garden Manager at Dixon Gallery and Gardens, will present The science and magic of growing cut flowers; Sherri McCalla, Memphis Botanic Garden Horticulture Assistant, will discuss all things Herbs; and Kim Halyak, Cooper-Young Garden Club and Experience Memphis Gardens, will guide you through Transforming your Garden with Style. Numerous demonstrations will take place both days; Leaf Casting, UT agents Cooking Demo, creating garden art, cutting gardens, growing Fuchsia in the mid-south; and even Yoga in the Garden.
Bring the kids on Saturday, April 5th, from 9 until 2, for a fun-filled day of educational activities in the Kid’s Corner. Children will experience hands-on crafts and garden-related projects while learning about plants and gardening. There will also be a live butterfly release. The children’s activities are FREE for all ages.
Dr. Chris Cooper, UT Extension Agent for Shelby County, notes that “The Spring Fling Garden Show and Plant Sale is a two-day free garden event hosted by the Memphis Area Master Gardeners. Whether you are an experienced or novice gardener, new to the area or a Memphis native, you will find plenty of practical, research-based information to make your gardening easier, more enjoyable, and more successful.
