Hearty Southern comforts meet Creole cooking traditions

Gumbo has some tangles in its roots. While based on Creole cooking, it incorporates typically Southern items that are plentiful at farmers markets throughout our area. The vegetable base of tomatoes, okra, onions and peppers are as inexpensive as ever right now. The meat is where it tends to get confusing. Some contain sausage, and others have shrimp — with chicken occasionally thrown into the mix. No matter which you select, all are stirred together to make a comforting, budget-friendly meal that can be frozen for later use if necessary. So from an area known as The Big Easy, you’ve got an incredibly easy dish to feed a hungry crowd with Tennessee style!
