Caramel Sauce Recipe

- Yield: 1 1/4 cups
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Place the butter, cream and brown sugar in a heavy saucepan over low heat. As soon as the butter is melted, increase the heat to medium so the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from the heat and let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in the extract and set aside to cool and thicken.
